No matter how big or small, no matter the water context, every surfski race in the USA can be listed on the National Series calendar. The process is super easy -- race organizers simply submit this brief online form and you're good to go!
Has your surfski race already happened? No problem! Anyone can submit race results anytime to the Ocean Racing Committee for inclusion in the National Series points calculations.

Help us celebrate our 30th Anniversary! Presented by West Coast Paddlesports and ARE Tahiti, the Hanohano Ocean Challenge is one of the Longest Running Paddlesport Races in North America! We’ve always had a great mix of top level professional athletes and beginners from ages 7-80.
The St. Johns River challenge is an 8(ish) mile race along the St. Johns and Arlington rivers in Jacksonville, Florida. Racers will get to circumnavigate Exchange Island and see views of the downtown Jacksonville Skyline. Lucky racers will also see pods of dolphins and the occasional manatee.

The Gorge Downwind Champs is a week-long festival of downwind paddling held annually in the Columbia River Gorge which is conveniently located 1 hour from Portland Oregon. Consistent summer winds, simple fast shuttles, variable terrain from insane to beginner, hot temps and fresh water make it one of the top downwind locations on the planet. More than 300 surfski competitors in attendance!
Known as the "Boston Marathon" of the competitive surfski world, the Blackburn Challenge is a 20-mile open water circumnavigation of the beautiful vacation destination island of Cape Ann, Massachusetts. A true endurance race, the Blackburn course features five distinct legs, each with unique characteristics and tactics. Due the fickle nature of the weather on Massachusetts' North Shore, conditions can vary dramatically throughout the day and the water can be rough, with strong winds and large waves.
The Chesapeake Bay Paddle, hosted by the Kent Island Outrigger Canoe Club offers 3-mile and 10-mile out-and-back races, as well as an epic 35-mile full circumnavigation of Kent Island, Maryland. All three courses are open to single and double surfski paddlers. The race start/finish and post party are located at the Kent Island Yacht Club. The event benefits Chesapeake Conservancy’s WaterKeepers Chesapeake and Oyster Recovery Partnership. Race shirt guaranteed for registrations in by June 30, so don't delay!
The Circumnavigation has been going for several years and it's a beautiful paddle no matter your speed. The course progression is determined within 24 hours of the event to take the best advantage of the wind direction. All 9-mile and 15-mile paddlers pass through Knapps Narrows, a highly traveled thruway between the Chesapeake and Choptank rivers & home to one of the most frequently opened drawbridges in the United States.
The 2025 Pan American Canoe Ocean Racing Continental Championships will be held in Fortaleza, Ceara, Brazil, home of the annual MolokaBRA Downwind Festival, from August 22nd through August 31st. The ACA Ocean Racing Committee is currently working on the participation package for this international competition, so get ready to race in one of the fastest growing surfski communities in the Americas!

The 2025 ICF Canoe Ocean Racing World Championships will be held in Durban, South Africa, from October 17th through October 19th. The ACA Ocean Racing Committee is currently working on the participation package for this international competition, so get ready to race in the "Home of Surfski"!
Chief Michael Huck of Dania Beach Ocean Rescue has brought our race back to the beach where it all started 37 years ago! The 2025 East Coast Surfski Championship offers 12-mile open water and 4-mile protected water racing with a mid-morning start time. All racing takes place on the Dania Beach waterfront on Saturday, November 1st, 2025.

Southeast: Treasure Coast Paddle Battle | March

Northeast: Narrow River Race | April
The New England season opening 16th Annual Narrow River Race is a great gauge of your early-season mettle. Held in protected waters, the race is suitable for most paddlers. (ACS Estimate: E1)
West: Wild Buffalo Relay | April
The Wild Buffalo Race is an all-small craft relay race within the Southern California Ocean Racing winter series. The race includes all small craft divisions with relay teams of 2-4 people (depending on the craft) or select solo divisions. The race runs from Avalon, Catalina Island, CA to the Newport Aquatic Center in Newport Beach, CA. This is a 32 mile course.

Northeast: Run of the Charles | April
The Run of the Charles is the signature event of Charles River Watershed Association (CRWA), the leading science and advocacy organization for Boston's Charles River and its surrounding watershed. The event is the largest multi-discipline boat race in New England and draws over a thousand racers and spectators each year with the help of nearly 150 volunteers.
Southeast: Carolina Cup | April
The 13th Annual Carolina Cup is a week-long event featuring clinics, demos and 5 races. On Saturday, there is a 3.5-mile Harbor Island Recreational race, 6.5-mile Money Island Open Race, the dreaded 13-mile Graveyard Elite Race and The Graveyard Outrigger and Surfski race.

Mid-Atlantic: D and R Canal Park 50th Anniversary Race | May
2024 is the 50th Anniversary of the D and R Canal State Park. In commemoration of that, we are holding a Spring paddling race! May 4th at 10 AM. As per the famous song, a day for a mule pulling a barge on the Canal was 15 miles. Can you complete half of a mule-day on the D and R canal? If so, join us for the 8-mile "half-mule" race!
Southeast: The Great Chickasawhay Race | May
The Great Chickasawhay Race is back on after a brief hiatus.. There will be door prizes and tons of fun!
This race provides lots of challenges for everyone. If water is low and the temps are hot get ready for a very challenging 22 plus miles. No matter what the conditions the River is beautiful and the people of Wayne County MS are some of the best you will find anywhere. Once you have paddled this route you will always want to come back for more whether you are racing or just out for a fun paddling adventure.

Experience the most scenic section of the historic Suwannee River! Race Divisions include canoe, kayak and SUP. Racers over 50 years old may choose to race in the Masters division. Award paddles will be given to the overall winners and division winners. Second and third place winners will receive medals. All racers will receive a race shirt.
Southeast: Suncoast Paddle Challenge | May

Finishing off the Maui Paddling Hui 2024 Season with a bang! Test your fitness at the Kai Wa'a Strong Maliko. Maui Paddling Hui operates a racing series on the island of Maui. The races include one and two person outrigger canoes, and Surfski ocean racing kayaks.

The 3rd Annual Navarre Paddle Classic, sponsored by Navarre Beach Yoga Studio, will be held May 18, 2024 at Navarre Beach Marine Park in Florida's Santa Rosa Sound to benefit the Navarre Beach Sea Turtle Conservation Center.
Mid-Atlantic: OCQ River Paddle Challenge | May
Paddle the beautiful Occoquan River in this challenge for recreational and competitive paddlers alike! This flatwater course will start and end at Occoquan Regional Park and pass the waterfront of the historic town of Occoquan, along the shoreline of several wildlife areas, and under multiple bridges.
West: Gorge Vortex Series #1 | May
The GCC Vortex Race #1 is a part of the Vortex Race Series put on by Gorge Canoe Club. This a three part race paddling series in the Heart of the Gorge with courses set on the Columbia River. The potential course for Race #1 is Marine Park Beach, Cascade Locks, OR to Home Valley Park, Home Valley, WA.
West: KIRA #10 - Molokai Challenge | May
Each May, the world’s best surfski paddlers enter the ocean at Molokai’s Papohaku Roadstead to compete in the Molokai Challenge: A Race to Oahu. Because of the large international field this race attracts it is considered the unofficial World Championship of Open Ocean Surfski and Solo Canoe Racing.
Northeast: Mystic River Herring Run Paddle | May
Join us on Sunday, May 19th for the 28th Annual Mystic River Herring Run and Paddle, which runs every May and celebrates the return of the river herring! Paddlers choose either a 9-mile all-water course or a 12-mile course featuring a brief portage.
Northeast: NESS Salem League Weekly Series | May through August
Now in its 19th season, Massachusetts' storied Salem League weekly series offers action-packed Tuesday evening ocean races beginning in mid-May and running through the end of August.

Mid-Atlantic: Paddle Round the Island | June
This beautiful wetland course offers amazing wildlife scenery as well as an athletic challenge. To help support and protect our local wildlife and the waters within, the proceeds from the race will benefit Tidewater Wildlife Rescue (a subsidiary of Evelyn's Wildlife Refuge) and the James River Association.
West: Gorge Vortex Series #2 | June

Midwest: Great Iowa River Race | June
Canoers, kayakers, and paddleboarders are welcome to compete in this fun 9.25-mile race on the Iowa River! Serious racers (you know who you are) can enter into the competitive event. Included in the race fee is a race t-shirt and lunch. All profits help the to expand the Johnson County Conservation Environmental Education program.
Southeast: Lake Blalock Paddle Blast | June
Experienced and beginner paddlers are welcomed to Lake Blalock, one of Spartanburg County's reservoirs and a wildlife management area. Choose from the three-mile or six-mile option along the still waters of the Pacolet River. Blalock is a rural, protected, access-controlled reservoir, and power boat traffic is limited. SUPs, kayaks, surfskis, canoes, and other human-powered craft are welcome.
Northeast: Sakonnet Surfski Race | June
The 12-mile Sakonnet Surfski Race stretches along Rhode Island’s expansive Sakonnet River tidal estuary, testing paddlers with dynamic downwind conditions. The 20k course exposes athletes to a range of possible wind, wave, and current scenarios, challenging competitors' fitness and navigational skills in one of the most beautiful and accessible coastal locations in New England.
Southeast: Paddle Mania | June
The 8th Annual Paddle Mania race hosted by the Lanier Canoe and Kayak Club. The race will be on the Chattahoochee River beginning and ending at Lanier Olympic Park. 5K and 10K course options. Numerous age and craft classes will offer many opportunities for competition among equals.
Northwest: Rat Island Regatta | June
Gear up for the Rat Island Regatta, an exciting paddling event happening at Fort Worden State Park. Whether you choose the short or long course, both routes offer thrilling challenges and breathtaking scenery. Don't miss the chance to compete for the coveted Rat Island Cup, where the first overall finisher will have their name hand-engraved for posterity!
Northeast: Ride the Bull | June
The 12th Annual Ride the Bull is a 9-mile race held on Rhode Island's Narragansett Bay. The competition is a true open-water event, with rough ocean conditions expected.
Great Lakes: 45 North Solstice Paddle Festival | June
Great Lakes open water racing is back! The annual 45 North Solstice Paddle Festival is including a 10-mile downwind surfski race in beautful West Arm Traverse Bay. Those of you familiar with TC Surfski and the Peak Paddle Performance Podcast know that Traverse Bay is Nick Murray's home turf! Get ready to catch miles of sweet runs on crystal clear fresh water, and then hang out at a huge community party waiting for you at the finish line!
Southeast: Clemson Paddle Jam | June
Head to Clemson, South Carolina for the 3rd Annual Paddle Jam and enjoy two days of food, music, community, and a 6mi / 10k course set in Clemson's beautiful 12-mile Recreation Area.
Northeast: Charles Island Challenge | June
Head to Connecticut for the annual Charles Island Challenge 5-mile race! Located just west of New Haven, the Milford-based race launches paddlers from the beach into the warm waters of Long Island Sound. With live music, yoga, dancing, hula hoop contests, craft tents, sponsor tent giveaways, wellness tents, beach yoga, SUP yoga, games, and food trucks on site, the apres-race can't be missed!
Mid-Atlantic: Around the Cape | June
The DeSatnick Foundation will host a 14.50-mile circumnavigation of Cape May Island, New Jersey. This is a challenging open water test, as participants paddle past the USCG TRA-CEN, the only training center/boot camp facility in the entire country, through the Cold Spring Inlet, which is over one mile long and home to the third-largest commercial fishing fleets on the East Coast, past the USS Atlantus, the world-famous sunken concrete ship, and through the Cape May Canal, which was dug by the Army Corp of Engineers in 1942 to reduce the risk of attack by German U-Boats.
Northeast: Milford Small Craft Race | June
The Milford Small Craft Race will be held on Sunday, June 23, 2024 from Gulf Beach with 9-mile long course (2 laps) and 4.5 short course (1 lap). OC1, OC2, Surfski, Double Surfski, Fast Kayaks, SUP, and Prone divisions for Men, Women & Mixed.
Northeast: Jamestown Double Beaver | June
The Jamestown Double Beaver is a 10-mile race held on Rhode Island's Narragansett Bay. The competition is a true open-water event, with rough ocean conditions likely. Expect to see fantastic scenery, including lighthouses and beautiful sailing vessels along the way.
West: Tahoe Paddle Jam | June
The Tahoe Paddle Jam is an iconic event and a summer celebration beach party at Tahoe Waterman's Landing Beach Club on the pristine beach of North Lake Tahoe. The Tahoe Paddle Jam offers a 3-mile (5km) short course, a 7.5-mile (10km) long course and a Watergrom Challenge.
West: Gorge Vortex Series #3 | June

Portland Paddle of Maine's East End Race Series is a ten-week series of friendly competitions for kayakers and paddleboarders, with races scheduled every Monday evening beginning the first week of July and running through the first week of September!

Celebrating our 21st year! We are not the typical race -- come join us for this event and be part of the movement to inspire our Youth. Friday's 26-mile event starts from DT Fleming Beach on Maui. Racers cross the Pailolo Channel in a 26-mile race open to all paddle craft and some wind craft, too.
Great Lakes: Belle Isle Classic | July

Welcome to the 5th running of the annual Knoxville's Three Rivers Regatta! Once again, paddlers will challenge the three rivers of the headwaters of the Tennessee in Knoxville in one of the Southeasts most exciting summer races. With three rivers to select from and the same location for the Start and Finish lines competitors will need to choose wisely -- will you make the right call? Only one way to find out!
Midwest: Ohio River Paddlefest | August
Bring your SUP, kayak, canoe, tandem, or prone to race at the Ohio River Paddlefest. Racers will be a part of the nation's largest paddling celebration, leading some 2,000 recreational paddlers down a closed course on the Ohio River, passing through downtown Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky.

The Connecticut River Museum’s Fifth annual downriver paddle regatta to benefit the Museum’s education programs takes place on August 10, 2024 from 8:00 – 12:00. The Regatta is open to all paddle craft: canoes, kayaks, stand up paddleboards and rowboats.

Northeast: Great Stone Dam Classic | September
The Great Stone Dam Classic consists of three races, all happening at the same time. Races share the same start/finish line, and racers start in waves grouped by race distance and boat class. All proceeds benefit the Greater Lawrence Community Boating Program (GLCBP). GLCBP has taught thousands of kids and adults to sail, row, canoe and kayak over the last 30 years.
West: Tahoe Cup / Lake Crossing | September
The Tahoe Waterman Tahoe Cup / Lake Crossing is set apart from other paddle races by its 22-mile length. The paddle across the majestic "Alpine Caribbean" environment of Lake Tahoe, surrounded by 2000' mountain peaks, is a bucket list experience to most paddlesports enthusiasts. The Lake Crossing is open all craft: stand-up paddleboards, prone paddleboards, outrigger canoes, and surfskis.

The 7th Annual Bay Bridge Paddle is a paddlesports showcase on the Chesapeake Bay. The BayCreek Cup Race is on again with an updated name… The Rochester Cup at BayCreek! The 8-mile race is held on Irondequoit Bay in Rochester, NY. While typically a flat-water course, the bay can get a little lumpy depending on wind and boat-wake conditions. Only one award is given: the perpetual trophy for overall canoe/kayak -- so bring your fastest boat and paddle hard!

West: The California Gold Pier-to-Pier Race | September
The California Gold serves as the premier surf endurance race in the United States with a mission to raise awareness of drowning while also providing funds to back junior lifeguard scholarships and drowning prevention programs. Northwest: Narrows Challenge | October
The Narrows Challenge pits human powered vessels against the strong tidal currents between Tacoma and Gig Harbor. About a third of Washington's Puget Sound flows through this deep and narrow channel. The race offers 5K (3 mile), 10K (6 mile) and 20K (12 mile) lengths, with the longer options geared toward intermediate and expert level surfski paddlers.
Northeast: Silver Lake Race | October
Open to all paddlers (and paddlecrafts!), the 5-mile Silver Lake Race is located in Berlin, CT in collaboration with Kuhn Employment Opportunities, a non-profit assisting adults with disabilities in finding employment and becoming valued, independent and proud members of the community.
Mid-Atlantic: NCA Minimental Small Boat Race | October
Aloha! Welcome to the NCA Minimental Small Boat Race, hosted by NCA Outrigger and the National Capital Area Women's Paddling Association (NCAWPA). All small craft racers are welcome to participate: outrigger canoes, surfskis, kayaks, SUPs, marathon canoes (conditions permitting), and one and two person rowing shells (conditions permitting). This is a flatwater small boat race on the Anacostia and Potomac Rivers in Washington, DC. Participants can race a 9.5 mile Long Course, a 4.25 mile Short Course, or both at no extra cost.
Southeast: Autumn Marsh Challenge | October
